Members are kept informed of online and in-person talks by DBRG and those of similar organisations that we think might be of interest.
Small group visits such as recordings and building study visits will be advertised by email to members and then bookings will be arranged by the person organising the visit.
Please note that these visits are open to UK residents only to ensure they are covered by our insurance.
Forthcoming events
Visit to CAPEL and DISPERSAL OF THE DBRG LIBRARY
Meet at 11am at the church lychgate for a group walk around the village of Capel. Please share lifts if you can and park considerately on the road through the village. We hope to visit one timber framed house so be prepared to take off shoes and bring a torch if you find one useful.
Bring your own packed lunch to eat at Mary Day's annex where the DBRG library is held (address will be communicated once attendance is confirmed). Tea/coffee will be available. We are disposing of the library, so for a donation of any amount you may take books away with you (please!).
Because the day involves a house visit it is a members only event. Please notify the Chairman
by 23:00 on Friday 23rd May if you intend to come, that's martin-higgins@outlook.com
Visit to Croydon's Bishop Palace
Visit to: Croydon's Bishop Palace, Old Palace of John Whitgift School, Old Palace Road, Croydon CR0 1AX (entrance opposite number 14 Old Palace Road).
This may be the final open day for the Bishops' Palace because the school that occupies the building is closing in August. It is one of Old Surrey's great buildings. The library, complete by 1414, is a very early use of brick. The splendid Great Hall also dates from the early 15th century. Considerable information on the history of the site may be found on the internet.
Meet at 11:30 in The Great Hall and we can go round in groups or as individuals and may meet up afterwards for a discussion. The Palace is open to the general public this day and there will be some room stewards but the visit is not formally guided.
Parking can be difficult and expensive in Croydon so public transport is recommended. East Croydon Rail Station and West Croydon Rail Station are both 0.6 miles (13 mins) by foot. Navigation from East Croydon is easier.
Booking not necessary: public event.
